Mickey Rourke - Bad Plastic Surgery?

Has Mickey Rourke had a bad facelift? I think so. Notice how his sideburns appear obliterated. This is a telltale sign of a facelift. The skin of the face is pulled back so far that the skin with the sideburns is removed during the surgery. This is one of the things that most plastic surgeons attempt to avoid with their facelifts.
How can his sideburns be replaced? There are two possibilities. Some of the hair from his scalp can be rotated into place to become new sideburns or he can have hair transplant grafts placed to regrow them. I was taught how to do hair transplants by one of my mentors, Dr. Steven Ringler. It's such a tedious surgery that I don't have any interest in performing it. I'd rather stick pencils into my eyes.

I assisted with hair transplant surgeries - and from my experience, the doctors part was very simple - he just excised the tissue and sutured the wound together - I was the "lucky" one who actually cut the grafts into single follicle grafts and placed them! I am surprised you would find it tedious. While the whole procedure did take several hours, the doctor I worked with spent most of it on his laptop while I placed grafts with the other assistants.

  2. I found it tedious because I actually do the surgeries and not surf the internet while the patient is paying me to do it :)

I agree that Mickey Rourke's plastic surgery does not look good. To the contrary, I think Leslie Stahl looks great. Any idea who did her surgery?

I think that the sideburns are the least of the problem here. Doctor Youn, what exactly went wrong here? I can tell that the telltale "tuck" in front of the ears of a facelift is so apparent even with the angle of this pic. But what horrifies me is the cheeks! What went wrong with this type of surgery that the cheeks ended up looking so unnatural?

Sideburn deformity aside, the real issues are twofold:
    1) the surgeon or surgeons who over the years butchered Mickey are to blame. For Gods sake, it doesn't even look like him. Shame on them for not saying "enough is enough". It shows just how greedy some of these LA cosmetic surgeons really are. They'll do anything for a price.
2)This case also demonstrates how out of touch most celebrities are to reality. Mickey, or Sylvester, or Joan or Pamela(the list is endless) have no concept of what looks good(meaning natural) and what doesn't(meaning freakish). If people use celebrities as their role models, then God help us all! We'll end up like that classic episode of Twilight Zone where everyone has a pig snout.

  7. He used to look SO good.
Now he looks like he was in some accident that melted his face.

  8. Dr Youn, why don't surgeons just say no when celebs like this come knocking on their door for more work to be done when it is clearly not in their best iinterest? Isn't that unethical?

Mickey looks dreadful. He should have just let his face age naturally. Or have more subtle work done. Facelifts on men are just so obvious!

There are a lot of patients who are great candidates for surgery, but there are several who pay for unnecessary cosmetic surgery over and over. As people try to lose weight, cosmetic surgery should not be considered until after eating healthier and exercising are given a try. For those who hold unrealistic expectations or have a history of depressive disorder and anxiety, cosmetic surgery may not be the best thing for the remedy. Cosmetic Surgery Advice

Dr. Youn, why does it seem that so many celebrities have had bad results? Do they pick bad doctors or do they demand results that are unrealistic and the doctors cave in? I would think that with their time and money, they'd have the patience to search and pay for someone top notch. This baffles me.

  11. It's hard to say why so many celebs have bad work done. I think it may have to do with all the photos that get taken of them. They are in the public eye, and any bad result makes news (and blogs). There are a lot of people out in the general population who have bad work done too. Believe me, I've tried to fix a lot of them.

I throw up nearly male cosmetic surgery meal due to food getting stuck. The probe tells the doctor which glands are bad and which ones male cosmetic surgery good.

I think it's the SHIRT that makes the picture look so ugly. Mickey was able to pull this freaky mush off in "The Wrestler", so it can't be that bad. If he wouldn't be able to mutilate himself via creepy surgeons he'd be doing it with drugs and possibly hurt ppl more than just by scary appearance. Very entertaining.

Dr., do you think Mickey's damage can be corrected through more plastic surgery or should he just quit while he's ahead (relatively speaking) ?

  20. Now he looks like Ledger's "Joker". Why do people's obsession with defying aging leave them looking like a caricature of themselves?

He has had damage to his face due to his boxing career.

I don't think there's ANY bad plastic surgery. Mickey Rourke destroyed his face thru 4 years of boxing and actually required reconstructive surgery. Let's all get our facts straight before we pass judgement.

He's a great actor. I don't care what he looks like compared to what he looked like when he was twenty. I'm sure the majority of you passing judgement don't look so hot your damn self.

Am I the only woman that loves to look at men's lips? Good god, Mickey's don't look anything like the cute, pouty, insolent ones he had when he was a babe! That's the real problem here. Face lift, I can live with that, but that mouth! UGH!

In 9 1/2 weeks he was so hot, I mean, hotter than Johnny Depp!

OMG!! the last comment "hotter than Johnny Depp!" how is that possible?

    Johnny Depp is the sex.
