Awful Plastic Surgery Getting Sued for Libel?
The Awful Plastic Surgery website has posted a letter from the attorney for Hunter Tylo, threatening a lawsuit for alleged libel after the site posted photos of her and her breasts.
Awful Plastic Surgery is asking for any input from attorneys who may be able to help them with this unfortunate circumstance. If you are an attorney and would like to give your two cents, feel free to email them or leave a comment on this site.

Hilary Swank - Breast Implants?
Did Hilary Swank have a recent breast augmentation? It's definitely possible, but not a definite certainty in my opinion. I was recently interviewed about her busty figure by Make Me Heal.com News:
Plastic surgeon Anthony Youn recently told Make Me Heal that he believes Hilary Swank may have had breast implants following her breakup with Chad Lowe. “After her much-publicized breakup with husband Chad Lowe, Hillary Swank appears to have gotten a breast augmentation,” says Youn. “People who have recently ended a long-term relationship quite often undergo plastic surgery. For many of them, it symbolizes a new beginning, or a transformation into a new person.” Youn adds caution, saying that “For others, it may be an unfortunate attempt to gain attention in order to “woo” the person back.” While we don’t think that Swank thought twice about going back to the Chad Lowe, we can think of other stars who on the “rebound” decided to pick up a set of new boobs. “Either way, plastic surgery is something that must be taken seriously, as it is not the same as getting a new hairstyle,” says Youn.
Whether or not she's had her breasts augmented, she remains an actor to be watched. I thought she was fantastic in Million Dollar Baby, but admittedly I haven't seen Boys Don't Cry.

Heidi Montag Recent Plastic Surgery Photos
US Magazine.com has recent photos of what appears to be Heidi Montag's recent breast augmentation and rhinoplasty. While I think she looks good both before AND after, their poll is overwhelmingly in favor of her "before" look. As long as she is happy that is all that really matters...
UPDATE!!: Heidi has admitted to People magazine she has undergone 10 procedures in one day. Click here for my take on each of her surgeries.

Radio Contest for Free Breast Implants - Tasteless
There is a fantastic post on Dr. Rob Oliver's Plastic Surgery 101 blog on a radio station's contest where the winner receives free breast implants. Apparently the contestants must spend the night at a radio station-sponsored slumber party and the "girl that parties the hardest" wins. And who do you think will do the surgery?
A board-certified plastic surgeon? Nope.
A non-board-certified plastic surgeon? Naw.
Some type of surgeon? Not even.
Someone who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night? Not quite.
He's an Emergency Room physician who has become a cosmetic surgeon. Oh, and he's currently on probation.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Board of Plastic Surgery consider giving away plastic surgery in a contest as a violation of ethics. I agree with this. While we often consider the subject of celebrity plastic surgery as entertainment, plastic surgery is indeed serious and should never be taken lightly by the people who have it or the people who do it. Those in the lay media are responsible to do their homework on anyone whom they recommend as a surgeon. The people who spend a lot of money on advertising are sometimes the ones who are least able to perform the surgeries properly.

Jennifer Aniston Unhappy About Rhinoplasty?
The latest issue of the National Enquirer has a story which claims that Jennifer Aniston is unhappy with her recent reported rhinoplasty. Apparently she feels that the tip is still too big. My mentor, rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, comments about it in the article.
It takes at least 6 months for the swelling to resolve after most rhinoplasty surgery (sometimes up to one year!) so it is not uncommon for patients to express initial displeasure with the nose not being small enough. The photos I saw looked good to me, and I would expect her to look better and better as the swelling subsides...

Jenna Jameson - Skin Cancer Scare
In an interview with US Magazine, adult film actress Jenna Jameson states that she was diagnosed and treated for Malignant Melanoma of the back in Nov 2004. Before she could get treatment for the melanoma, a blood test revealed that she was two months pregnant. She unfortunately miscarried, possibly due to the stress of the cancer. The following month she had the skin cancer surgically removed, and has been cancer-free ever since.
Malignant melanoma is a very aggressive cancer. If left unchecked, it can spread to vital organs and result in death. I'm glad to hear that the skin cancer was curable, as some malignant melanomas are beyond cure. If you have a mole with the following characteristics: Asymmetry (one part different from another), Border irregularity (ragged borders), Color variety, or Diameter larger than 6 mm, then be sure to get it checked by a dermatologist.

Pat Robertson Thinks Greta Van Susteran Looks "Oriental"
This story is taken from the excellent Plasticized.com blog. Pat Robertson, host of the 700 Club, supposedly recently commented on Greta Van Susteran's plastic surgery by stating:
"Yeah, they got the eyes like they're Oriental, and, you know, it's all pulled." And he made a physical demonstration of his point by pulling back the corners of his eyes as in the photo above.
That's not very nice.

Drew Barrymore - Breast Reduction
This isn't anything new, but with all the recent news surrounding bad plastic surgery (i.e. Courtney Love and Britney Spears) I thought I'd post about some good plastic surgery.
Drew Barrymore underwent breast reduction surgery at age 16. She looks fabulous.
Breast reduction surgery is a great procedure for women (and some men) who have overly large breasts which can create back, neck, and shoulder pain. It is best for people whose breasts are disproportionately large for their size. The extra breast tissue and skin is cut out and the breast lifted back onto the chest. The main negative about this surgery is the scars that are created. These scars are permanent, although usually fade with time (1-2 years). So yes, when Drew flashed her breasts to Dave Letterman several years ago, he probably saw her scars as well.
Some other notable celebrities who've had breast reduction surgery include Queen Latifah and Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster).
One quick story: A 14 year old boy who had DDD's was brought in by his grandma (who raised him) because he was so embarrassed of his breasts (gynecomastia) that he wouldn't leave the house. He was failing out of school and ignoring his friends. His grandma knew he had large breasts, although he wouldn't show her, and asked me if I could help him. She hoped that breast reduction surgery would improve his self-esteem and get him out of the house and back to school and friends. I performed the surgery shortly thereafter, removing over 4 pounds from each breast. He healed great. Three months later on his last post-operative visit his grandma took me aside to ask me a favor. She asked me to encourage him to stay in and do his homework, since he was going out with his friends all the time and was never home. The best part of it was that he had to cut the appointment short because he had a date!

Britney Spears - More Plastic Surgery?
More Britney Spears news (as if you hadn't had enough). It's being reported that Ms. Spears may be planning to spend a whopping $130,000 on plastic surgery in an attempt to drop four dress sizes in just three months to regain her previous figure. The procedures include: Lipodissolve (mesotherapy), breast lift, lower body lift, liposuction, and brachioplasty.
While this information is from Star Magazine, a "reputable" tabloid, I doubt it is completely accurate. Lower body lifts and brachioplasties would leave her with long scars which could easily be visible depending on the clothes she wears. In addition, while she may have gained some weight recently, this is no reason for her to have these surgeries. They are not for weight loss. Brachioplasty and lower body lifts are usually reserved for people with massive weight loss, such as Star Jones or Newman from Seinfeld.
Either way, Britney doesn't need a plastic surgeon, she needs a psychiatrist!

Courtney Love - Recent Plastic Surgery and Weight Loss
Courtney Love has been in the press quite a bit lately with her recent corrective rhinoplasty and massive weight loss. Recent photos of her nose show that she may still be a bit crooked. Awful Plastic Surgery has a post on this.
My comments regarding her recent weight loss are in this week's In Touch Weekly. She has gotten extremely thin, resulting in a good amount of loose skin on her abdomen. Photos also show some lumpiness of the abdomen, possibly from previous liposuction.
Too many stars are losing too much weight, resulting in an emaciated appearance. I tell my patients: healthy and athletic are good, bone thin is not. Hopefully young people will not use them as role models for their weight...

Britney Spears - Liposuction / Lipodissolve?
The Sun is reporting that Britney Spears may have undergone a non-surgical fat reduction procedure called Lipodissolve while in Las Vegas recently:
The Toxic singer has had trouble shifting those last few blobby bits after giving birth to sons SEAN PRESTON and JAYDEN JAMES. So she decided to Do Somethin’ about it and nipped to see a liposuction specialist in Las Vegas.
The Advanced Lipo Dissolve centre specialises in a non evasive treatment of a series of injections which claim to permanently dissolve fat. It sounds painful and Britney looked a bit tender as her minder helped her on with her jacket.
Lipodissolve is a trade name for a type of mesotherapy. This is a controversial technique pioneered in Europe some 50 years ago which claims to reduce fat and improve cellulite through dozens (sometimes hundreds) of injections with small needles. Non-invasive it is not. To my knowledge, although the technique has been around for a long time, there are no large scale scientific studies which have proven that it actually works. I do not believe that the medications used are FDA approved for that use.
There are a couple physicians who perform mesotherapy in my area, although none of them are board-certified plastic surgeons. The one who does the most is an ER physician who is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. In my practice I have seen probably ten patients who've had mesotherapy prior to seeing me, and all but one saw no improvement after over $1000 of treatment and were therefore consulting for liposuction. One patient, a male, did appear to have improvement in the fat below his neck, however. Hopefully Britney will be one of those in whom it actually works...
Dr. Rob Oliver's Plastic Surgery 101 blog has a very well-written post in this subject as well, with some other astute observations.
For more information on mesotherapy, visit "Mesotherapy not proven as a safe alternative to liposuction," from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Heidi Montag - Breast Augmentation?
US Weekly is reporting that Heidi Montag of MTV's reality show The Hills has had a breast augmentation this past Monday. According to the article:
Sources say that Montag had been considering the procedure for several years and just recently decided to go under the knife.
I find it amazing that this type of information gets out to the press so quickly...

Britney Spears - Liposuction?
As if she hasn't had enough negative publicity lately, this photo of Britney Spears has been circulating the internet, presumably showing lumpiness of the abdomen from bad liposuction. While her abdomen may look a bit lumpy in this photo, I would bet that (like Paris Hilton's recent "breast augmentation") this is just due to lighting, shadows, and a bit of loose skin from having two children. Time will tell.
I hope Britney continues to get help for her psychological issues. She is a very talented entertainer who needs to avoid the spotlight for a while and get back to what should be most important in her life: her children.
