Who am I? It came to my attention recently that in the past year that this blog has been around, I've never really explained who I am and where I come from.
Here is my educational background:
Greenville Senior High School: 1986-1990 (valedictorian)
Kalamazoo College: 1990-1994 (magna cum laude- B.A.)
Michigan State University College of Human Medicine: 1994-1998 (M.D.)
Michigan State University Grand Rapids General Surgery Residency: 1998-2001
Michigan State University Grand Rapids Plastic Surgery Residency: 2001-2003
Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship w/Dr. Richard Ellenbogen: 2003-2004
I was offered a spot in Dr. Ellenbogen's practice, a prominent one in Beverly Hills, California, but turned it down. My wife and I moved back home to Michigan, where we settled in Rochester Hills, a suburb of Detroit. I opened my practice, The Hills Plastic Surgery and Laser Centre, in August of 2004. I am thankful for the great success that we've had.
My practice currently consists of mainly cosmetic plastic surgery. I do participate with the major insurance companies as a resource for reconstructive patients in need.
I've been featured in Dr. 90210. My comments on celebrity plastic surgery have been published in many national magazines, including In Touch Weekly, Life and Style, US Weekly, JANE, The National Enquirer, and OK! Magazine, among others.
Some of the surgeries I specialize in include facial fat grafting, the Volumetric Facelift, Breast Augmentation, Tummy tucks, and VASER Liposelection, to name a few. I'm also an active writer for major plastic surgery journals and am on the Editorial Advisory Board for the prominent magazine, Plastic Surgery Products.

It feels like I've gone to school forever. The field of cosmetic plastic surgery is my passion, however, and I am dedicated to practicing my craft with the utmost in integrity and skill.
So that is who I am in a nutshell. In general, I prefer to keep the intimate details of my family life private and off the blog. Over the next several months I will post information on some of the plastic surgeons around the country whom I respect and consider either my mentors or my respected contemporaries.

I'm glad to hear you help out people needing reconstructive patients. Do you have a rough idea of how many other plastic surgeons do the same thing?

ReplyDeleteAnon- It's difficult to quantify how many plastic surgeons perform reconstructive surgery, but I would guess that at least 50-75% of them do SOME reconstructive work.

Keep guessing. I had a major cosmetic / reconstructive surgery done on my face after I graduated high school. I do get facial lasers at times (the LaserFACIAL) but have actually never had Botox. I've also had some microdermabrasion. No cheek implants or rhinoplasty. I'll post it at the end of the week if no one can guess it.

ReplyDeleteWow, you people are good. I had my jaw broken and set back in the summer before college / after high school. That's why Hollow Squirrel didn't know it was done. A very painful surgery, I must say. My jaw used to stick out so far I could stick my tongue through the space between my top and bottom teeth. It was really not good. Unfortunately, I grew a bit in my first year of college and the jaw did too. Now it is a slight bit strong. Thanks for all the nice comments and educated guesses!

I have the ugliest, lopsided, tubular breasts. I am wondering if they can be fixed without an implant? They are size A.
ReplyDeleteUsually tubular breasts are best treated with an implant and a donut-type breast lift.

Also can lasers be used to lighten skin at a more rapid pace than traditional creams?
Skin lighteners with hydroquinone, especially at 4% strength do definitely work. I've had great success with Obagi products, but lesser success with others.

I've been looking at breast implants and breast lifts, and it seems that breast lifts unfortunately leave quite a bit of scarring. I've read that implants usually work best for smaller chested women (A or B), but I haven't read advice for women who start out with C cups. If a relatively young woman with natural C cups is looking to get a 'lift' and a slight (natural looking) enhancement, do they generally need to get an actual lift plus implant, or does an implant suffice?
For example, (http://www.goodplasticsurgery.com/archives/004052.html)you can see very clearly that Jessica Simpson was looking a little droopy a few years ago and now she is perky again. Do you think she had to get a lift?

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the only way to lift a breast is to actually have a mastopexy (breast lift) performed. This does create scars. Implants will not lift a breast, and in fact often do the exact opposite. In a nutshell: If you want to be bigger, use implants. If you want to be lifted, then a breast lift is indicated. If you want both, then do both. Thanks for reading.
