Thermage Complications

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the main medical journal for plastic surgeons, has published a letter in this month's issue I wrote regarding possible complications of Thermage.

Thanks for reading.

  1. If this is the side-effect of Thermage, couldn't they use the device as a non-surgical way to get rid of body fat?

=/ Just the hopeful and lazy side of me speaking.

Damn, that is one procedure I had been hoping would work as advertised.

I'm only 24 years old and my plastic surgeon recommended it instead of buccal fat removal... but after searching online and seeing all the complications with this procedure, I won't do it.

    dr youn,
good article..if the thermacool tc device it is used at LOW intensities can the destruction to the fat pads be avoided? if at all? can the same damaging result on fat pads be produced with the aurora laser(this uses infrared and RF) and versa pulseC laser?(intense beam of light)

also, i have read of one Dr's opinion of heat, lasers and other infrared devices. he feels they are destructive skin tightening methods and that they denature the collagen, the collagen matrix shrinks (like bacon in a pan) which causes a general skin contraction. while the result is tighter skin. its with condensed, damaged collagen. what is your opinion?

i've been reading several posts from women on a facial plastic surgery board about how their facial skin texture, wrinkles and contour's worsened post laser tx's.specially around the eyes. they said it gave them a sunk in hallow'd eye look with increased crepiness

Thermage took the opportunity to discuss this position here: http://www.medicalspamd.com/the-blog/2007/5/10/thermage-tackes-its-safety-reputation-among-physicians.html

Disclaimer: My clinics all perform Thermage.
