Heidi Montag - Plastic Surgery Addiction

The media is currently buzzing about People Magazine's newest issue with Heidi Montag. In the issue she admits to being "obsessed" with plastic surgery and recently undergoing ten procedures during one operative setting in November. What the heck is going on here?

Heidi is a 23 year old young woman who obviously has self-image problems. Because she has no real talent to keep her in the spotlight she appears to be using plastic surgery as a sad attempt to stay on the covers of magazines. While this may work for a week, the results of her surgery stay for life. Here's what I think about the ten procedures she's had done:

Revision nose job - unnecessary. It looked fine after the first one. This just creates more scar tissue which could cause problems down the line.
Chin reduction - Why? Her chin looked good before.
Mini brow lift - stupid. Her brows were not droopy.
Botox - unnecessary in a 23 year old. She had no real wrinkles before. Now she has a "Botox brow" and looks like Cruella De Vil.
Fat injections - Not needed. She is too young to need fat grafting to her face. Unless the person has an unusually flat face, I usually consider this in the 30's at the earliest.
Ear pinning - I'm unsure about this one. It's reasonable if she had ears that stuck out.
Liposuction - ridiculous - She's too thin to need lipo. She should talk to Tara Reid.
Buttock augmentation - dumb - Heidi had a very nice derriere before the surgery. She should leave well-enough alone. She risks it becoming lumpy and uneven.
Breast augmentation revision - Probably unnecessary. Unless she had a complication or wanted to downsize, there was probably no reason to do this.

Overall, a 23 year old woman should not be having this many surgeries. Most, if not all, of her surgeries appear unnecessary and could even potentially make her look worse, not better. Unless there is more to the story than there appears on the surface, I don't think all these operations were the right thing to do. Send the poor woman to a shrink instead.

Thanks for reading.

  3. Imagine waking up next to someone who looks NOTHING at all like the person you married. It's worthy of note that her husband said he was against it, so it will be interesting to see what happens with their relationship.

I also agree and was shocked to find out she was only in her early twenties! I understand maybe getting a nose job and breast implants and lipo at such a young age but most if not all of her recent surgery seems absolutely unnecessary.

I do have a question though. Isn't it more risky to perform ten procedures at once considering the long hours one has to spend under anesthesia? Also, what was this doctor possibly thinking by not saying no to some of her requests for cosmetic enhancement? The second nose job seems so unncessary. I would think it would offend his sense of good aesthetics.

A plastic surgeon who comments openly about unnecessary surgery is a good thing. Thank you for your honesty.

Seems to me Heidi is trying to change her features so as to enter the realm of memorable beyond-the-norm-beautiful.

This realm is occupied (in no particular order) by Dyana Mendoza (Miss Universe 2009), Miss Kosevo 2008, Miss Croatia 2009, Miss Sweden 2009, Angelina Jolie, Cindy Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, Kristal Stewart (Miss USA 2008) and the young Elizabeth Taylor.

All of these women have features that are beyond the norm. Vogue did an article back in August 2001 or 2002 about cultural beauty and Heidi may wish to read it.

Heidi naturally has a quite average appearance - this being her eye placement and bone structure which cannot be changed.

She will always be what she is - which is a pretty girl but nothing special. She just did not score well enough in the DNA Dept. to enter the room occupied by the above-named or described women.

Anything she does to try to change the unchangeable will most likely result in her becoming a caricature and a topic of derision.

There's no way Spencer Pratt was against this. He is a narcissistic child who controls Heidi Montag and every aspect of her life. To men like Pratt, a woman with extremely low self-esteem is like candy. I'm sure he's a huge part of the reason she did all this in the first place.

The other issue here concerns the plastic surgeon who performed all of these potentially unnecessary surgeries.Last week while standing in line at the checkout,I happened to flip through the magazine and noticed he received a healthy write up in the article. Instead of publicity, he should be reprimanded. It is the responsibilty of the surgeon to prevent patients like this from get carried away. Her plastic surgery addiction can only be realized if the surgeon allows it. Shame on him!! He gives our specialty a bad name all for the sake of headlines.

  11. You have an anonymous genius posting here:

This is the first time I've read such a profound insight regarding cosmetic surgery. Bravo to you, whoever you are.

All of this surgery makes her look like a 40 year old cougar trying to look young again. Im 21 and I haven't even thought about any of that stuff. Sure I'm not rich and on tv but 23 should be a time to be thinking about your life, not your looks. Wow

  14. I've decided to call her "Montage" from now on. Because she looks like she's just made from bits and pieces of other people.

  15. It is just sad to see such a young pretty woman turn into a mainstream barbiedoll. I'm pretty sure that Spencer is behind this, he is just controlling and mean.

I think Heidi looks quite a bit like the internet model who was famous in the 90s, Cindy Margolis. Her looks were dramatically changed with plastic surgery, she entirely erased her ethnicity in fact:

Heidi looks older, bland and cheap after the surgery. Why would anyone want obviously fake breasts like that?

I'm surprised she hasn't gone off to China for leg lengthening.

I really love your blog and thank you so much for this post! I really wonder what compels a person to erase any trace of who they are/what they look like. So very sad.

The boob job looks ridiculous in the other pictures that were released! She went for DDDs which look terrible on such a small frame.. She even said she wants to go up a few more sizes because these "don't look so big". This girl needs help...

  19. With all respect, I must disagree that her chin looked good before. A big chin looks masculine and gives the face a 'horse-esque' look. Known so many people with nice features that were ruined by a big chin. This was her best decision.

  20. I s'pose in your world everyone looks good if they look like identikit females. I think you missed the point of any discussion about having a unique and recognisable look.

You know, I have spent my whole life struggling with being overweight, with a very low self-esteem. I wish that I could trade bodies with these women for just a day or two, to help them realize how few imperfections they actually have. I am undergoing breast reduction in three weeks, as I am a DDD, and my plastic surgeon is very optimistic that it will help my self esteem, and help me to lose weight. I know what it feels like to feel bad about yoursel, so I do feel somewhat sorry for these women who think they need to go to extremes.
