Has Courtney Love Had a Stem Cell Facelift?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Courtney Love has undergone a stem cell facelift in the Manhattan office of a Facial Plastic Surgeon. Photos show that she certainly looks better than she has in a long time. But are her looks really due to a stem cell facelift?

Stem cell facelifts are definitely the future of facial plastic surgery. The idea behind the procedure is that stem cells are removed from liposuction fat and reinjected into the face. Because stem cells are extremely youthful cells which can transform into new cells in the location they are transplanted, they can theoretically create newer, younger looking skin. At this time, the machines to separate stem cells from fat are not currently FDA approved for cosmetic purposes. Therefore, the closest thing we have to a stem cell facelift in the United States is a 3-D Volumetric Facelift, a.k.a. a facelift with fat grafting. I, along with three other prominent plastic surgeons, introduced this procedure five years ago in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. Since then, several plastic and cosmetic surgeons have introduced this procedure as their own.

Courtney Love Quits Plastic Surgery...Because of Jocelyn Wildenstein?

Courtney Love has apparently sworn off plastic surgery after seeing "The Lion Woman" Jocelyn Wildenstein up close. According to Zimbio.com:

Love ran into the 63-year-old socialite recently and was shocked at the way Wildenstein looked after $4 million worth of cosmetic procedures. Jocelyn is rumored to have had everything from a face lift and lip implants to cheek, chin and breast implants. Courtney said, "I could do with another boob lift, but no way. I don't want to end up looking like her. She looked freaky."

I sometimes see patients who've had grossly overdone facial plastic surgery for consultation. Most people would be surprised at how many of these patients don't want corrective surgery, but are there to get more changes made. These are the ones who can 'scare' off new patients in the waiting room. Can you imagine walking into your plastic surgeon's office and seeing Jocelyn Wildenstein waiting to be seen too? Would you turn around and leave?

Courtney Love's Lips are Normal??

In previous posts I reported on Courtney Love's plans to reverse her previous plastic surgery. The last post had photos of what appeared to be a sutured-up lower lip. This recent photo show what appears to be normal-looking lips. It looks like her surgeon did a nice job. I think she looks pretty good for Courtney Love.
Unfortunately her hair looks like she stole it from Dog the Racist Bounty Hunter or a medieval princess...

Courtney Love - Lip Surgery?

Courtney Love continues to be in the news regarding plastic surgery. She was recently photographed at a London club looking like she has a new scar along her bottom lip. She recently stated (link) that she was planning on getting the plastic surgery she had performed on her lips corrected, and it seems she has. It's quite possible at one time she had a permanent lip implant placed (such as Gortex), causing her lip to look large, stiff, and unnatural. Usually it can be removed with a small incision at the corner of the mouth, but at times it may be necessary to completely fillet the lip open. This may be what has happened to her. The scars usually heal pretty well, but I still am not a fan of lip implants. I'd rather use an injectable like Restylane or Juvederm.

Most patients would let it heal for a couple weeks before going out to a bar though! Maybe she figured the alcohol in her drinks would help prevent it from getting infected...

Courtney Love - Breast Implants?

A funny site called "Make Boobs Not Bombs" has a post on Courtney Love's possible breast implants. In it they state:

Her implants have been barely covered on the news, with all the other juicy trash gossip rags can find about her. She later got her implants removed when she started to feel her breast hardening and ripples on the lower portion of her boobs were starting to show.

I'm not sure where they got this information from, but if it's on the internet it must be true ;) With all the bad news out of Iraq, the website "Make Boobs Not Bombs" is a breath of fresh air. If only the insurgants, militants, and President Bush would focus more on breast implants and less on war, the world would be a much safer place.

Courtney Love Wants to Get Her Lips Fixed

Courtney Love has recently commented on MySpace that she would like to get a corrective procedure done to her lips. According to the Associated Press:

In a message on her MySpace site, she said she regrets having had cosmetic surgery on her mouth back in the day, which she refers to as "my dark years." She said her mouth "was perfectly cute." She has since had corrective procedures but says her "mouth still looks wonky. I have to restore myself to not looking ridiculous."

I like to enhance lips with long-lasting, but temporary injectable fillers like Juvederm or Restylane. Fat grafting (which is permanent) is another good technique, but only a small portion of the fat usually stays for good and the lips can look swollen for weeks. I'm not a fan of permanent or 'semi-permanent' lip fillers, since they often look fake (Gortex) or can have bad reactions (silicone), sometimes years after they are placed. What type of surgery could Courtney Love have had? Maybe a lip advancement or placement of an implant like Gortex, both of which are not surgeries I recommend due to the high rate of unnatural results. I hope she is eventually comfortable in her celebrity skin...

Courtney Love - Recent Plastic Surgery and Weight Loss

Courtney Love has been in the press quite a bit lately with her recent corrective rhinoplasty and massive weight loss. Recent photos of her nose show that she may still be a bit crooked. Awful Plastic Surgery has a post on this.

My comments regarding her recent weight loss are in this week's In Touch Weekly. She has gotten extremely thin, resulting in a good amount of loose skin on her abdomen. Photos also show some lumpiness of the abdomen, possibly from previous liposuction.

Too many stars are losing too much weight, resulting in an emaciated appearance. I tell my patients: healthy and athletic are good, bone thin is not. Hopefully young people will not use them as role models for their weight...

Courtney Love - Plastic Surgery?

There are reports that Courtney Love has recently travelled to France for corrective plastic surgery. Apparently she underwent a rhinoplasty to correct two previous nose jobs, and possible lip surgery to remove lip implants.

According to MakeMeHeal.com:
The surgery reports were confirmed after Love arrived on Thursday (January 4, 2007) at the premiere of Hilary Swank's new movie "Freedom Writers" with a swollen, healing face, accompanied by old boyfriend Billy Corgin of the Smashing Pumpkins.

When asked if she had more cosmetic surgery in France, Love said, "I'm not going to comment on that tonight. I just think me looking human is cool."

Having rhinoplasty performed more than once or twice can create deforming scar tissue. It's always best to have it done right the first time, not the third. Hopefully she is now comfortable in her 'Celebrity Skin!'
