There are alarming reports that a gene which causes bacteria to be resistant to nearly all antibiotics is being brought overseas on patients undergoing cosmetic surgery in India. I will have more on this tomorrow, but here is an article from the Examiner addressing this scary finding:

This is scary stuff! People barely bat an eyelash at MRSA anymore. This feels a lot like what happened to the economy... years of bad business practices went unchecked for years and then it all blew up in everyone's face. Very reminiscent of what's happening with these bugs. Also scary that they referred to E.Coli as a "virus" in that article :)
I'm not sure what people thought - that by going to a third-world country for their surgery, they could save money but at what price?
These nations do not have a long history of hospital surgeries as this country, European, and Japanese nations do.
They certainly do not have the legal protections that the USA affords nor the attentiveness to all levels of sanitation.
